Junior golfers enjoy experience of a lifetime
Twelve junior golfers from Rock Chapel had the experience of a lifetime last week as part of the CN Future Links Walk with a Pro event at the RBC Canadian Open July 22 at Glen Abbey.
Of the 550 boys and girls participating this season in Rock Chapel's Future Links junior clinics and golf camps, the 12 juniors were chosen by the instructors not just based on golf skills but also for showing great sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the game. They were Ben Kenel, Melina Kindos, John Anderson, Jack Dean, Samantha Dean, Kyle Dickinson, Beth Sharpley, Sydney Lilja, Hunter Willier, Philip Lucek, Reid Vogel and Tanner Baker.
Over the morning at the par 3 7th tee of Glen Abbey, each junior got the chance to meet a different pro and his caddie. They engaged the young golfers by chatting about things like how long they have been golfing, what club they think they should use for the shot and asking them to toss some grass in the air to check the wind conditions.
After the shot, the juniors could carry the pro's bag and then using the pro's putter, make the putt for them. Further adding to the excitement was the cheers and applause of the spectators around the green as the juniors holed the putt. Many of the pro's gave their new caddy their ball or glove which they autographed after they played the hole.
The event left a tremendous impression on these young golfers. The RCGA deserves high praise for all its efforts in promoting and supporting junior golf in Canada through its CN Future Links program offered at local golf clubs such as Rock Chapel.

A dozen thrills of a lifetime - Kids caddie for pros at Open Pro-Am
by Garry McKay (Sports Reporter)
Twelve young golfers from the Bay Area had the thrill of a lifetime last week when they each got to caddie for a PGA Tour player for a hole at the RBC Canadian Open.
Josh Heyer, Madison Heyer, Alexis Kenyeres, Megan Burr, Jacob Knegt, John Henry Venema, Jestin Miller, Ben Kenel, Tyce Slack, Thomas Kenel, Michael Kenyeres and Madison Etmanski from the Rock Chapel Golf Centre were chosen to loop for a PGA Tour player on the third hole at Glen Abbey Golf Club during Wednesday's Pro-Am.
The players were also given the opportunity to try the first putt for the player whose clubs they were caddying.
Rock Chapel, which has more than 425 juniors in its CN Future Links Junior Golf Clinics and summer golf camps, was chosen by the Royal Canadian Golf Association to provide the 12 young golfers for its Walk with the Pro event at the Open.
When the RCGA first rolled out the Future Links program in 1996, Rock Chapel, which is on Highway 5 in Flamborough, was the first facility in Canada to jump on board.
The RCGA gave the 12 young golfers T-shirts and hats and most of them got them autographed by the players as they went through. Some of the PGA Tour players even gave the youngster who was carrying their clubs a ball or glove.
The dozen golfers also lucked out with the weather. Each got their hole in before a huge thunderstorm rolled through Oakville cancelling the rest of the Pro-Am.
